Force of Nature by Edward Humes - This was a really interesting and well written book! I hadn’t thought of Walmart as green at all, but as it turns out, Walmart is actually leading the industry in a way. I learned a lot reading this book and would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in learning about Walmart or environmentally friendly business practices. I’m really interested in applying operations research to sustainability, and this book showed me a way that could be done!
The Day Nina Simone Stopped Singing by Darina Al-Joundi with Mohamed Kacimi - This is a really compelling little memoir, and I read it really quickly. Darin Al-Joundi grew up in Lebanon, and the book is about her life there until she left at age thirty. It was a really harsh and powerful novel about women’s liberation. The book does jump around a bit, which I found confusing at times.
Dolic di Love by Sarah-Kate Lynch - I LOVED this novel!! Oh my goodness, it was soo good! I read it in one afternoon because I just couldn’t put it down. The novel follows the story of a busy corporate vice president as she follows her husband to Tuscany after finding a photo of him with another woman and two children. Once she arrives, the League of Widowed Darners, a group of elderly ladies dedicated to true love, steer her in the right direction to heal her broken heart. I laughed, I cried, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this lovely novel.
